Elmhurst Extended Care Center is relatively
small, with only 112 residential beds. Our small
size makes it very easy for new residents to adapt
and feel welcomed by their new extended family. Our comfortable size also allows staff
more time to devote to residents’ personal needs.
The Elmhurst Extended Care Center
Story
In 1960 the healthcare center was built,
conceived and organized by the Gibbon’s Family. The “Elmhurst Nursing
Home” opened its doors in October, 1960 with 43 residential beds.
In 1967 The Elmhurst Nursing Home, Inc., was reorganized by Dr. Gibbons and
his wife, Bonnie, and assumed its present name, Elmhurst Extended Care Center,
Inc., an Illinois corporation. In 1973 stock was transferred to Bonnie’s
son and administrator, John Massard. Major improvements were made with
the addition of the East part of the building and the Therapy Department in
December of 1976. A license was then issued for 112 skilled nursing
beds. In 2004 John Massard became sole owner and continues to manage
the Care Center. Today
Elmhurst Extended Care Center is the oldest privately
held nursing center in DuPage county and one of a few
family operated skilled nursing facilities in Illinois.
